Courts Hierarchy in Outline
This diagram helps to explain the Courts Hierarchy in England and Wales. From the bedrock of justice in the Magistrates’ Courts, justice is also done through the Crown Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and the final arbiter is the House of Lords (until November 2009 when that role passed to the new Supreme Court).
This diagram is part of a set of three such helpful diagrams which can be freely downloaded in PDF format. The other two charts can be viewed here: Sentencing Framework and The Magistrates’ Court Layout
This diagram is taken from The Magistrates’ Court: An Introduction (5th Edition, 2009) by Bryan Gibson and Mike Watkins.
