Not Exactly Candidates for the Flying Squad

Alan Jackaman has now completed his new manuscript, entitled ‘Alibi’. The author of Napper: Through a Glass Darkly (Waterside Press, 2019), which tells how he identified the Wimbledon Common serial killer of Rachel Nickell, has created a fascinating account that is already being looked at for TV.

Planned for publication in early 2026, Alibi by Alan Jackaman is an absorbing account of crime detection in 1980s London in which dedicated CID officers work side-by-side ‘Life on Mars-style’ with flotsam and jetsam colleagues.

The book describes how crimes were nonetheless solved by an unorthodox rag bag of officers, some more concerned to be in the pub by lunchtime than to complete the ‘actions’ landing on their desks.

The story centres on an horrific unsolved double murder in which a leading suspect was charged but acquitted at the Old Bailey.
