Legendary singer-songwriter Annie Lennox and Waterside Press author Pauline Campbell recently met up in London when they discussed the injustices faced by the Windrush Generation as described in Pauline’s book Lefty Lawyer: Speaking Truth to Power. Annie was launching her own new book, Annie Lennox: Retrospective (Rizzoli International Publications), at the Emmanuel Centre in Westminster where Pauline attended as a VIP guest.
The real connection is that Annie is a founding trustee of the charity Justice4Windrush where Pauline works unstintingly as its sole bono lawyer. Following the event, Pauline attended a private gathering in Annie’s hotel when Annie thanked Pauline her for all her legal work and praised her dedication. Pauline comments, ‘She was truly amazing. It was an honour to present her with a signed copy of my book.’
Pauline’s work is attracting great interest, and she was due to speak at several autumn events in London:
On 16 October 2025 At the Bar Standards Board (the regulator for barristers and specialised legal service businesses) as a panel member, to share her experiences in relation to this year’s national Black History Month under the heading ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride.’
On 23 October 2025 At the London School of Economics with employment lawyer Lawrence Davies, founder of Equal Justice Solicitors, concerning the social justice work they both do and the dangers of how racism impacts on people’s lives.
On 30 October 2025 As a speaker at International city Law Firm Stephen Harwood about her pro bono work and the injustices faced by those affected by the Windrush Scandal.
Several other leading city firms are also looking at holding events around Pauline’s book and her Windrush work (dates yet to be announced).
