Author Anthony Stokes showcased Reading gaol’s rich history as his book was launched in the prison chapel. Following the official proceedings led by Governor Pauline Bryant, some of those attending were treated to a tour of the prison – including the site where hanged prisoners were buried anonymously (Anthony has now marked each grave with a plaque). Poignantly, the last surviving relative of Oscar Wilde’s C.T.W. stood next to his ancestor’s grave, almost 111 years to the day that he was hanged.
