About the author
For many years, Dick Whitfield was chief probation officer for Kent and a leading figure in probation-related affairs. He is the author of two other Waterside Press works: Paying Back:Twenty Years of Community Service with David Scott [see Criminal Courts and Sentencing] and Introduction to the Probation Service - as well as The State of the Prisons: 200 Years On (Routledge, 1991). Tackling the Tag is based on extensive personal research in Britain and the USA.
